Lost the Magic
By Chris Devine
I have spent time perfecting my silence,
Made an effort to protect myself.
I've almost made avoiding love a science,
Since the last time it left, I remember how it felt.
Now I've lost the magic, along with the joy I knew,
Lost touch with the magic when I lost touch with you.
And I could have wandered for ages,
Through the groceries and shopping malls.
I could have written a book of empty pages,
And I would have been wise enough,
I would have known it all.
And I could have sat in parking lots,
And looked for someone in the faces there,
I could have sat in empty coffee shops
And waited for you to come in, but you never cared.
So I lost the magic, along with the joy I knew,
Lost touch with the magic when I lost touch with you.
Since I don't have you to warn me,
I can blame it all on you.
You know I don't even care if it's true,
Because I refuse to see,
To see ...
So I will spend time perfecting my silence,
If I will always be alone,
And all my dreams will bow in meek compliance,
And the magic we could have made will all remain undone,
Cause I've lost the magic, along with the joy I knew,
Lost touch with the magic when I lost touch with you,
With you ... |
