Suicide
By Richard E. Moore
This is a song about letting go by refusing to let go. When
a friend or a lover takes their life, they take a little piece
of everyone they love with them. It is the most selfish act possible,
and the most destructive to the ones that you love. Often people
kill themselves thinking that they're sparing the world of some
small portion of pain, while in reality they increase it by factors.
There's a guilt that remains in your heart, in the hearts of those
left behind - that can't ever be washed away. Not really. Could
I have stopped this? Couldn't I have? If I'd cared enough? If
I'd paid attention? This song was the most difficult to write
... And even after bleeding it out at dozens of shows, it was
still tough to record ... I'm not going to say anything more about
this, the song says it all.
was it under your nose?
did you let it sneak up?
you're walking on main street
at midnight again
wishing it was easier to forget
feel the shame of it
deep inside the heart of it
gone black
gone black
gone
you call your leather jacket your armor but it doesn't stop much
now
and Rube Goldberg would be proud of the defenses you built
around this
around you
around me
around these words
these eyes fall down
the last time he saw you
you were sitting naked talking suicide
he thought you were talking again
feel the shame of it
deep inside the heart of it
gone black
gone black
gone
you call your leather jacket your armor but it doesn't stop much
now
and Rube Goldberg would be proud of the defenses you built
around this
around you
around me
around these words
these eyes fall down
pull one plug
flip one switch
tie one knot
pull one plug
flip one switch
tie one knot
yeah
did it get you high?
did it at least make you smile?
did it get you high?
did it at least make you smile ...
and make it easier to forget?
feel the shame of it
deep inside the heart of it
gone black
gone black
gone
you call your leather jacket your armor but it doesn't stop much
now
and Rube Goldberg would be proud of the defenses you built
around this
around you
around me
around these words
these eyes fall down
was it under your nose? |
