Charade
By Erik Matthew Hendel
Show me a Viking, I'll show you a chief,
disguising imperfection with false relief
The web so very neatly spun, our confidence not yet undone
The hidden mechanism pursues its work,
as we land him in the midst of a lazy circle
To tell the world what's done is done, but we know now it's just
begun
It only looks like authority is leading,
intention is succeeding,
history's not repeating
Persistent in their greed, they left us standing betrayed
And those who gave the most revered the celebrated charade
They cheat the panicked masses, wrapped in an act of treason
A tragic mockery with public perception motivated reason
Gaining detractors and loosing composure,
the pseudo-psychological closure's over
In retrospect there's little won, when arrogance will not succumb
All for the money and all for the show,
and if it persists then we undergo
The disintegration yet to come, day by day and one by one
It only looks like your brother isn't bleeding,
the enemy's conceding,
history's not repeating
Persistent in their greed, they left us standing betrayed
And those who gave the most revered the celebrated charade
They cheat the panicked masses, wrapped in an act of treason
A tragic mockery with public perception motivated reason
We prayed for counseling, and on our fears they preyed
And now I'm quite convinced that somewhere they're digging a grave
Persistent in their greed, they left us standing betrayed
And those who gave the most revered the celebrated charade
They cheat the panicked masses, wrapped in an act of treason
A tragic mockery with public perception motivated reason
